Sunward clean-up after floods in Slovenia

In early August 2023, Slovenia was confronted with significant flooding that impacted two-thirds of its territory. The floods marked a historic natural catastrophe for the nation, as highlighted by Prime Minister Robert Golob, with major rivers like Sava, Mura, and Drava reaching unprecedented levels. The aftermath of the deluge left a devastating trail of destruction, resulting in an estimated cost of half a billion euros ($550 million).

The toll of this disaster was particularly harsh on road and energy infrastructure, as well as numerous homes and structures. Swift action was taken as the National Flood Protection and Rescue Plan was activated, involving the deployment of Slovenia’s army to aid in the relief efforts. In seeking assistance from the international community, the Slovenian government engaged EU and NATO mechanisms, even making appeals for heavy machinery to assist with debris removal.

In this time of crisis, select Sunward machines have played a role in the recovery process. They are currently contributing to the recovery efforts by aiding in the clearance of flood-affected areas, efficiently eliminating debris and participating in the vital task of restoring the condition of the rivers.
